Are you just starting out in epilepsy? Do you work with people living with epilepsy occasionally, for example on a general hospital floor, emergency room, or ambulatory setting? Or are you a student and want to learn more about seizures?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, please visit the American Epilepsy Society’s (AES’s) Epilepsy 101. This series was initially designed for nurses who are often the “front line” in many health care settings. Yet, proper diagnosis, treatment and education for people with seizures will depend on many people becoming familiar with the basics epilepsy.
Epilepsy 101 can serve as an introduction to epilepsy for any health care professional or community caregiver. If you work in an epilepsy center or practice, consider using this as an orientation and refresher course for staff and share it with your general neurology and medical teams.
In addition to www.epilepsy.com, take a look at other resources for health care professionals and caregivers:
- Epilepsy Foundation Education Programs for school nurses, first responders, school personnel, child care providers, and medical interpreters.
- Epilepsy.com professional site
- Education at AES for more in-depth programs on epilepsy and selected annual meeting sessions.
- EMU Caring
Please send us your feedback and other ideas. And please help us spread the word about seizures and epilepsy!
