Anup Patel, MD

 

Anup Patel, MD is board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology, epilepsy, and clinical neurophysiology. He is the section chief of neurology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an associate professor for neurology and pediatrics at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He is the director of the epilepsy center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  

His journal publications and clinical research interests are in pediatric epilepsy, health services and outcomes research, and quality improvement. He has published journal articles involving medical cannabis and cannabidiol (CBD) and is a co-first author for the New England Journal of Medicine publication on the safety and efficacy of Epidiolex® for Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. He has participated in many research trials involving CBD for use in pediatric epilepsy. He is the lead author of the position statement for medical marijuana by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). He has given several presentations on the topic of medical cannabis at various regional, national, and international conferences.

Dr. Patel serves on the Professional Advisory Board for the Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome Foundation.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Child Neurology Foundation, and the Medical Advisory Council for Make-A-Wish® America.  

Dr. Patel completed his child neurology residency at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he served as chief resident. He completed his neurophysiology fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
