Nathan B. Fountain, MD is professor of neurology and director of the F.E. Dreifuss Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the University of Virginia where he completed neurology residency as well as clinical and research epilepsy fellowships.

Dr. Fountain's research includes National Institutes of Health (NIH) and industry sponsored studies of drugs and devices for epilepsy. Other research interests include studies of how seizure frequency changes, nonconvulsive status epilepticus, and improving quality of epilepsy care. He has published more than 100 articles, books, and chapters. He also co-chaired and authored the first epilepsy quality measures, which were subsequently adopted by Medicare.

He is co-chair of the Research Roundtable for Epilepsy and president of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. Previously he was chair of both the Epilepsy Foundation Professional Advisory Board and the FDA Advisory Committee on Peripheral and CNS Drugs.
