Foundation Quarterly Summer 2022

August is here, which means the latest edition of the Foundation Quarterly is now available.

While it feels like the summer has flown by, we’re holding onto beach weather and summer reading for a little bit longer and sharing some incredible stories from members of the epilepsy community.

What to Expect in This Issue

In this issue, we feature triathlete Rowan Haffner, who is keeping his swimsuit and bike ready for the next chapter of his life post-high-school graduation. Haffner did not let an epilepsy diagnosis stop him from crossing the finish line. He has completed 25 triathlons and Ironman races. He plans to continue to compete as he heads off to Duke University this fall.

We highlight stories of those who followed their dreams despite their epilepsy. Our cover story features renowned DJ HAPA. You may have spotted him at EpiCon in May. DJ HAPA has been a long-time advocate and supporter of the Epilepsy Foundation and he shares his journey filled with challenges and perseverance.

Additionally, we include a personal essay by one of our epilepsy awareness ambassadors who has struggled with seizures since she was 8 years old. She talks about the nine times she took a certification test to become an occupational therapist.

If you couldn’t join us this spring for our first-ever epilepsy convention, EpiCon, we encourage you to look at some of the fun pictures we’ve shared from this incredible event.

Lastly, we encourage you to grill or cook out a few more times before the summer ends! Make sure to try one of the recipes in our Recipe Corner courtesy of our friends at the Charlie Foundation for ketogenic therapies.

Read all of this and more in the Summer 2022 edition of the Foundation Quarterly.
