Topic: Insurance Issues
My wife currently has a medical plan which involves Express Scripts and affordable via her work but sadly after many years she shall be laid off at the end of the year, and researched online but the cost of insurances are extremely expensive and hardly covers any cost of your medication. I take Keppra 1000mg twice daily Keppra 500mg twice daily Tegretol 400mg twice daily Onfi 10mg one at night I have tried the Generic version of Keppra but does not work seizures increase. I can get a health coverage while working at Walmart but it is so expensive and covers you for very little I could end up paying Approx $1,500.00 per month alone just for Keppra which I cannot afford. If unable to afford your medication what help is available ? Do anyone know if a reasonable insurance company that can provide the drug Keppra at an affordable price ? Your help is much appreciated ! Regards Cliff

I do know about the cost of Keppra since I was taking it before they had a generic. The company I worked for changed from a co pay to a percentage which meant my cots went up dramatically. Co pay was 50 bucks the changes made my cost go up to 985 per month. I had to figure a way to keep taking Keppra since it was controlling my seizures well. I talked to Doc (neurologist that specializes in epilepsy) what I could do to stay on Keppra. He gave me keppra that people that were taken off Keppra had just ordered. Which helped while I worked to figure out what things I had been getting I could do without. The person I have been with for over 40 years and I worked together and we cut down on things. We were about to cut things out and down so I was able to pay the rent and cover my Keppra and things were good. Another thing that helped is doc talking to UCB Pharma (makers of keppra and they do help patients that need assistance and we got a 6 month supply a couple of times. Doc's office did tests on new medications and He let me be a trial patient on the generic Keppra. It worked just as good and the cost for me was 530 a month. You might want to check your county hospital because they try and help people that need help with medications. I have gotten some meds from them when I first moved back to Dallas.

Talk to your neurologist; he/ she probably can provide you with Keppra samples which they get from the drug company.
