ExxonMobil Corporation is NOT an Equal Opportunity Employer
Fri, 05/22/2020 - 16:50I was a third generation employee at ExxonMobil Corporation with a combined service of 70+ years at the Baytown, Texas refinery. I personally worked for ExxonMobil Corporation for just short of 5 years. I had my first seizure at the age of 30 in the hospital a mere 12 hours after my first and only child was born. Following my paternity leave I returned to work and informed my supervisors of my situation and was sent home until I could receive further tests and treatment. After a plethora of tests I was released back to work with minimal restrictions. With my union representation behind me I tried to return to work and was denied. After 6 weeks of disability leave I was let go because they refused to accommodate for my newfound disability. They said there was nothing that I could do within the company, which was completely false. I have a Bachelor's Degree and did not have a single blemish on my company working record. I filed a complaint with the EEOC and was informed that they would not fight for me either. I could not afford to sue them. I lost my career, pension and everything I had worked so hard to achieve. I have not and will never use another ExxonMobil product again in my life and I hope if you support individuals with epilepsy you will also refrain from doing so.

Hello. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and certified rehabilitation counselor as well as a person with epilepsy. I’m so sorry that this happened to you, but I’ve seen this many times before in my work and I’ve experienced it myself. I’m limited to self-employment. Someone from the Epilepsy Foundation will probably be responding to you during the week next week and may even advise you on their legal fund. If you are still having seizures and have any questions or concerns about being a new person with epilepsy, I am happy to try to help with you.
