long term memory loss cause dementia?

Thu, 10/24/2013 - 15:16

My long term memory is going.  I can't remember most of my childhood.  (I'm 54).  I don't remember my any of my 3 sister's weddings, (late 1970's - early '80's).  Is this a sign of early demtia? I realize that dementia is short-term memory loss.  I have had several concussions from my seizures over the years.  I finally started wearing a helmet 5 years ago.  Am I losing it?  I've taken Dilantin since 1976, and tried almost every other AED.  I'm still on Dilantin, but also take Lamictal, Clonazepam and Vimpat.  Are these dangerous to my memory?

I would recommend getting an MRI, regardless as to whether it is covered by insurance. Maybe get it done before Obamacare sets in.

Have the doctor show you the left hippocampus, (adjacent to the left temporal lobe). You could have mild hippocampal sclerosis (HS), like me. You want to know if it is progressive. There are 10 types of dementia; Mild Cognitive Impaiment (MCI) is one of them.

Please let me know.

Thanks

Thank you.  I will do just that.  H.S.  I'll look into that.    I'm sure I'll get dementia, I've hit my head way too many times to count with my drop seizures.    Contact me at tlcam59@yahoo.com. - T. Cameron

Be sure to get a copy of your MRI (you paid for it). It is approximately 20 pages with 12 pictures on each page. It can be seen on your computer after placed on a DVD. The software called DICOM is necessary to see the pictures.

You will want to search and compare any reduction in the size of the brain of future MRIs.
