Levetiracetam (Keppra) and LOW SPERM COUNT OR SPERM ISSUES

Sun, 04/26/2020 - 09:08
Hi, For over a year, we have been trying to conceive. I have never posted on a forum before but want to see if our issue is common in the epilepsy community. My husband is on 2500 mg of Keppra daily; his sex drive is great; my fertility has been checked but has anyone else had issues with sperm amount and quality whilst on Levetiracetam? Has anyone solved the issue? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1059131116300541 - this is an interesting journal about it. Thank you :-)

Hi, Thank you for posting. Treatment and how the body may react to certain medications varies for each individual. It’s important that you all are continuing to follow-up with your husband’s healthcare team to review this further. If you suspect this is related to his medications, it’s important that he does not stop taking his medication without guidance from his healthcare team. His doctors can help determine if his seizures or the anti-seizure medication he takes is contributing to problems with fertility. If fertility problems are present, ask for a referral to a specialist, often fertility issues are treatable. https://www.epilepsy.com/article/2018/6/june-men%E2%80%99s-health-month .
