Adult Healthy Siblings Research

Sun, 11/17/2013 - 11:11
My name is Julie Simon, and I am a doctoral student in clinical psychology at Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology in Boston. I am currently working on my doctoral thesis on healthy siblings of individuals with epilepsy. The following study is an exploration into the long-term impact of growing up with a sibling who has epilepsy. There are few research studies that ask adult healthy siblings to talk about how their childhood experiences with illness in the family have affected their current lives. Your participation in this study could help mental health professionals better understand the unique needs of healthy siblings across the lifespan. This study consists of a brief online survey. It will include some multiple choice questions and six open-ended questions. You are encouraged to write as much as you would like on the open-ended questions. Participation will take approximately 25 to 35 minutes. You have the option to be entered into a raffle to win a $25 Visa gift card. Participation criteria are: • Must be at least 22 years old • Must have a sibling who was diagnosed with epilepsy before participant and sibling turned 16 years old • Must not have been diagnosed with a serious chronic illness during childhood that required extended or repeated hospitalization (more than one week, two or more times throughout childhood) Researcher Information: Julie Simon, M. A. julie_simon@mspp.edu 508-737-3205 Please feel free to contact me via email or phone if you have any questions or concerns. If you know of other adult healthy siblings who grew up with a sibling with epilepsy, please feel free to share this information and link to the study with them. Thank you for your time.
