Is the depression a phase?

Tue, 12/10/2019 - 13:46
I had my most recent seizure almost a week ago and physically I feel fine but mentally I’m so depressed like I can’t even daydream anymore, is this still my brain recovering? I was 13month seizure free and I’m also blaming myself for causing the seizure; I mean I couldn’t help the fact that I was sick but I could have went to bed earlier knowing I had to be up at 5 or maybe if I wasn’t getting up for 5 for work my body could have recovered from being sick replacing its electrolytes and blood sugar. The seizure before this one November 2018 the doctor wanted to see me as it was almost 3 years free and she didn’t understand where the breakthrough came from, ultimately she put it down to weight gain; 79kg to 83kg in a year, I’m taking tegretol 800mg a day. Maybe because I got a direct answer for that seizure happening I was able to move on with life where as with this one I’m guessing myself as to why it happened and there’s part of me that’s saying ‘nope thats not the reason’ I’m usually a happy person who never thought of my epilepsy because it was controlled but now I can’t seem to shake it at all, I don’t have trouble sleeping I’m getting 7-9 hours a night but it’s all I can think of lately.

Hi, Thanks for posting, it sounds like you’ve been going through a lot. We understand it can be really frustrating and upsetting to have a seizure after not having one for 13 months. Like you stated you cannot help the fact that you were sick, (if that contributed to your seizure). It's important that you’re paying attention to how your body reacts to lack or sleep or an illness, which can be a trigger for some living with epilepsy. By identifying and tracking your triggers, behaviors and moods over time, you may be able recognize patterns with your seizures, allowing you to modify your behavior or lifestyle appropriately. To learn more about the importance of tracking your seizures, visit:  https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/managing-your-epilepsy/tracking-my-seizures/importance-tracking-seizuresIt’s also important that you're following up with your doctor to address your concerns and increase in feelings of depression, changes in behaviors, moods, symptoms, seizure types/frequency,to help determine what individual treatment plan is best for you, or if any adjustments need to be made.  Additionally, you may always contact our Epilepsy and Seizures 24/7 Helpline, where trained information specialists are available to answer your questions, offer help, hope, support, guidance, and access to national and local resources. 1-800-332-1000, or contactus@efa.org. epilepsy.com/helpline

It'll take time to settle

It'll take time to settle down after what happened. I always much better months down the line. In the mean time, take each day as it comes.
