6 months free of seizures :-)

Thu, 11/20/2008 - 08:41

Hi all,

It's actually been a while since I have been on the site.

It's been a busy year for me. I had brain surgery last May 22nd to remove a lesion in my left pariatel lobe that was causing my seizures. That all went well until a few weeks after the op, we discovered i had an infection.

I had to have another surgery and my bone flap was removed as it was badly infected. That was in early July. I now have a hole in my skull as a result. It needs to be replaced by a titanium plate. The surgery for this is supposed to happen next January. In the mean time, i have to be careful not to bang my head.

I also got married this year :-)

Twice in fact! My husband is from India you see and I am from Ireland. So we got married in both places. India in August and Ireland last month. When i was at home recovering from both surgeries, I was able to plan the weddings with time on my hands.

I am still on medication, two types. Tegretol retard and epilim chrono. Myself and my husband are looking forward to having our own children, hopefully next year. We are planning on coming off the epilim after i have had my surgery in january. I have to come off it slowly my doc says. So it will probably be april next year before we can try for a family. And I cant wait! :-)

As you can tell, I am very broody at the moment :-)

I want to share this with everyone, especially for those who are thinking of having the surgery, and say it was well worth it. I was given a 60% chance of success and so far I have had no seizures. And hopefully it will stay that way. But if not, it is a huge improvement compared to what it was like. I used to have complex partial seizures every day, from one to 15. depending on the day.  I am very happy and cannot complain.

I would like to wish everyone all the best and to really think about the surgery with its risks and possible permanent damage as it is not all plane sailing. The best thing one can do is to think positively no matter what the outcome, good or bad, and on what ever decision you may make is right for you, and not for anyone else.

cheers

Quirky

Hi!

Sorry to hear about the infection and another surgery, but at least you seem to have a positive attitude about it all, which does help. And congrats on your being seizure free and your new marriage! You have truely been busy:) I had surgery on my right temporal lobe in august of '07 and also have been seizure free! Good luck to you and best wishes. Becky
