Considering lesion removal surgery

Tue, 06/06/2017 - 16:30
I am now to the foundation and it looks there is a wealth of information here. I am being faced with surgery to remove two lesions in my brain. I met with my neurologist yesterday. She said we have an appointment next Tuesday with the surgical team. I was fine while talking with her but when I left I panicked! She has mentioned this several times and she has done a lot of tests leading up to this. I've been hearing her, but yesterday it became very real. I am 50 yrs old. I've taken several meds over the years. They. Work for awhile then they give out after about 4 - 5 years. I have had a vns 9 yrs now. It has helped greatly. I still have 3 - 5 seizures a month. My seizures change styles over time they are temporal lobe, complex partial at this point. If I go through with the surgery they will remove 1 damaged area from each side of my brain. Until now I haven't thought much about what the actual surgical process would be like...not facing reality I guess. I would appreciate information from anyone who has been through this type of surgery. My dr is also considering an rns implant. I have reservations there as well. If anyone has been through similar situations, please share your story with me. So Scared

Thanks for sharing.   Have you had the MRI yet? I am 57 years old and  have had complex/partial seizures for most of my life.  I too have right temporal lobe epilepsy.  I took Tranxene and Tegretol and my seizures were under control but I still had auras. I made a crazy decision to try new medications to stop my auras. Unfortunately I’ve tried many medications and my seizures have increased.  My neurologist highly recommended that I go through testing to see if I’m a candidate for laser ablation surgery.  On the one hand if I were a candidate, at least I would have the option to have surgery. But on the other hand, having surgery even if it’s less invasive scares me.  What research did you read where TAS is effective for only about two years?
