Cortical Dysplasia

Fri, 04/06/2007 - 08:39
Hi, My name is Lisa and I have a 7 month old daughter who has been diagnosed with Cortical Dysplasia. She is having focal seizures, but seems to be developing normally and is having early intervention. I have been getting conflicting information as to whether she could do fine on medication to control the seizures. One doctor told me the medications do not work for any length of time for patients who have cortical dysplasia. In any case, we are thinking of bringing her to the Mayo Clinic or the Cleveland Clinic for an evaluation for possible surgical intervention. Has anyone had a child with cortical dysplasia and had the surgery? What was the outcome of the surgery? If your child did not have the surgery, has the child had many delays? Are the seizures being controled on medication? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
