Depression and Right Temporal Lobectomy
Tue, 11/18/2008 - 22:20I recently Had a Right Temporal Lobectomy 10-22-08 and the Depression is just starting to hit me. I have bipolar disorder and have been on Zoloft since before the Sugery. When I started to feel depressed I have been having thoughts of breaking up with my boyfriend of 2 years and I tell him its like I don't know who I am right now as a person. I am rediscovering me. Its hard.. Because I don't know if I want to be with him.. and I am sure that is part of the Depression. Did anyone notice that their personalities have changed since the surgeries?

Hi Leah,
I had my surgery six and half years ago. I didn't notice things changing as quickly as you have, but as time passed my family said I was different. I felt a little different too but I thought it was still just recovering kind of. As more time has gone by though, it hasn't gotten back to the same. My family says I'm "not the same Katy anymore". Last year, after having had enough of feeling like it was never going to get better, I started on Paxil. I was on it for about four months and started to feel better, so I stopped taking it. Where am I now? Back in the same spot. I just started Paxil again three days ago and feel like I'll have to be on it for quite some time before I feel like anything is worth it again. Best of luck.
