Do OTC Pain Relievers Work

Sun, 08/03/2014 - 22:25

Hi everyone,

I had left temporal lobectomy three years ago.  Since then, I have been using pain relievers nonstop, prescription for one month and over-the-counter to date 24/7 between 7 and 10+ on the pain scale.  My doctors tell me headache will eventually go away but takes a long time and give me no further explanation.

I suppose pain relievers block the receptor from getting pain signals and, thus, literally alleviate headache to be the least or takes it away to be the best.  However, it doesn’t seem to be the case.

What should I do?  Any advice?

Thanks

Can you get a second opinion

Can you get a second opinion somewhere else (different office so surgeons don't work together, preferrably outside area)? I would want more information on what is normal, what are the range of possibilities and if something is an unexpected effect of the surgery (and if some mistake occurred).  Really get a copy of all your medical records to review this first yourself to better understand what you might want to ask about.  Perhaps bring an assertive person aware of your background to an appointment to see if they are just poor communicators who need help explaining how you can improve your quality of life aside from waiting.
