Experiences after VNS was turned on

Tue, 05/13/2014 - 07:09

Hello, I have recently got the VNS implanted and it was turned on a few days ago. I have no problems so far just still from the surgery. After the surgery I had a horrible cough but the Doc explained if was just swelling from the surgery. It went a way. I was so nervous to have it turned on. It really wasn't that bad I did feel some chest pain that went a way. Please tell me how your experience was. It took me years to finally give into having the surgery. I hope I won't be sorry. Thank you

It sounds like your settings

It sounds like your settings are not appropriate for you. More is not necessarily better. I'm at 30 seconds on, 1.8 minutes off. I can't recall the other settings (like strength). I've had it turned back twice ('off' time has become longer) because the shortness of breath was not bearable and it had started to become a little painful. I'm ok now, my shortness of breath is still there but it has been drastically reduced. My VNS moves a little, like if I lay on my left side and I did notice it when I went horseback riding. It didn't seem to really move but I was definitely aware it was there while trotting. I personally wouldn't worry about falling off a horse and breaking the generator; they're tough little suckers made out of titanium. It's damage or detachment of the leads that would be my concern. I'd still ride anyway.

When you use your magnet for

When you use your magnet for the very first time (I didn't need to, I just wanted to try it), make sure you're sitting down. Holy cow. My body was like 'what in the heck did you just do to me?' LOL Now my body is used to it so it doesn't bug me if I have to use it.
