I'd be thrilled to chat up with others who have had surgery

me: monthly tonic-clonics which led to left temporal lobe surgery, i.e. brain removal - it has had me totally freaked out since, because I look back and seem not even sure of the reason for the surgery which has made me look and feel different... it has been about 4 months since the first surgery, but it has been about 2 months since chronic subdural hematoma surgery which was given me suspicious thoughts to accompany the panic of the first surgery among a ton of other things... I've started seeing a counselor of a sort, now seen her three times I think it has been... that should be going on for quite a while I guess. I've tried to explain it to my family like "ok, imagine if you just sort of wake up to having had your leg amputated, and your family loves the outcome, though you yourself have no idea what's going on..." ya? I'm still feeling like crap and panicked and thought contortiony in bizarre ways... I'm still hoping to talk or chat more with folks with my common issues going on ... though it's pretty tough to find such... yuck.

My child went through the

My child went through the surgery not me, so I can't say that I know what it feels like, but I do remember that my child had some swinging emotions as the brain healed. I don't think what you are going through now will necessarily be there in 6 months. Things should even out as your post-surgery brain figures out how to rewire. Keep up with the counselor and let the epilepsy doctor know what you are going through. Some people go on psychiatric meds after surgery to help control depression or whatever. You could ask your surgeon as post-surgery depression is common. However, your brain is still healing (up to a year) so some of this could just be your brain healing. You could also get meds for anxiety if it is really bad and cleared by your doctor--but if it is not too bad, I would just keep telling yourself that this is just short-term. If it turns out not to be short-term, then you can cross that bridge when you get there.
