I've read on epilepsy.com (I cannot find the specific page at the moment) that having a seizure shortly after surgery can be a reaction to the invasive surgery itself and does not mean your epilepsy was not corrected.

However; if you've had multiple seizures since your surgery, I'd suggest you get back to your physician, asap.

I totally agree with Sol. A few seizures after surgery is normal, almost expected in a way. But if you're going a few months, call your doctor. Does it mean the surgery wasn't effective???? Not necessarily. Some more tests will need to be done to determine the reason for the seizures. Sometimes, surgery is unable to remove the whole focus, depending where it lies, so seizures are expected, just hopefully better and/or less frequent. Your neuro will be able to tell you.

Re: Re: I'M CONFUSED ABOUT SURGERY OUTCOME

This is what I was told prior to surgery 15 years ago (i.e, you can expect seizures up to 6 months after surgery because basically, your brain has been "assaulted" and is recovering from same). As it so happened, I went straight from seizures to no seizures post surgery to the surprise of even the surgeon.

Re: I'M CONFUSED ABOUT SURGERY OUTCOME

I had a seizure a few months after my surgery, and that was to be expected. I am now seizure free, and have been for about 7 years. I think that surgery is wonderful, and I think that everyone should have it to stop seizures everyday. Debbie

Re: I'M CONFUSED ABOUT SURGERY OUTCOME

I came out of surgery and went into status repeatedly immediately afterwards for weeks off and on. Was in the hospital for two full weeks due to status. After about a month the seizures stopped now twelve years later I can say I have had only one time where I believe I had a seizure after that month following surgery was done. So it can happen.
