Left temporal lobe abrasion

Fri, 09/22/2017 - 14:31
My Dad has epilepsy and has recently moved in with me as I have realized that his memory loss makes it unsafe for him to live alone. He had a surgery (sometime in the 90’s…I don’t know specifically as I was a child.) and ever since, he has basically no short term memory and very little memory in regards to events taking place after the surgery. (like the death of his parents. Each day, it’s like he learns that they have passed away but he couldn’t remember it.) This causes him unbelievable anxiety and depression. I have just learned that the surgery my dad had was an abrasion to the left temporal lobe and was told that they burned that portion of his brain. Has anyone else heard of this procedure or had similar memory loss with it? Is there anything that could possibly help to improve his memory? I’m at a loss for what to do to help him and it just breaks my heart to see him so upset each day.
