With this surgery interfere with my VNS implant?

Tue, 05/27/2008 - 16:54

Hi there. I was just wondering if someone out there might be able to help me. I have had absence seizures for 29 of 34 years. I have had the VNS implant for 4 years. And things are going ok. That is until now. I have been diagnosed with hyperparathyroid. More than likely I will have to have surgery on the enlarged one removed on the left side of my neck. The problem that I find is that I have my implant to the left as well. I am worried that this surgery may be needed, yet cannot be done if my implant will interfere with the procedure.

Does anyone have any kind of clue. Your feedback would be a great help. Thanks

Make sure the surgeon talks first with the neurologist who programs the VNS and the Clinical and Technical Support folks at Cyberonics. The doctors will know how to do this.

Good luck and hope you feel better!
