Surgery Problems 2 Yrs Ago - Major Headaches Now

Wed, 07/02/2008 - 18:34

Hello Everybody !  It has been two years since I had surgery - it still feels like it was only a couple of months ago.  I want to know if anybody had surgery more than one time because of complications?????  I had five surgeries because of fluids and blood collecting in my brain and after a week or two the stitches broke and the liquids gooshed out (not to make anybody sick over this).  I get headaches ALL the time since the surgery and sometimes I wonder if it was worth what I did?  I had grandmal seizures and petite mal seizures every other day; but I still managed to get Married (11 years now) and have two great kids (no seizures with them - thank god).    PLEASE LET ME TALK TO SOMEBODY with similar stories????  Thank you.

I am at Jennyrose2kids@aol.com

I've had 2 brain surgeries now.  One in Mar 1986 and the other in Sep 1998.  The first one went great!  I was paralyzed on my right side after the second LTL surgery.  I did make it through rehab without any problems because I had risk factors on my side.  The only thing that I notice now is I have tinnitus and I also get pressure still right where the surgery was done.  I don't get any headaches though.  The surgery also caused problems with anxiety.  I only have anxiety problems when I try to sleep.  My meds have caused problems with sleep apnea and that also runs in my family.  I now use a CPAP to help me sleep at night.  Other than that, I have a great job, I sing with a semi-professional choir, and I have one more year left to get my Bachelor in Science with Accounting/Management.

I thank you for writing back to me - you went thru alot.  I am happy for you that you don't give up and you continue to pursue your life no matter what gets in the way.  I was paralyzed only for the first day after the first surgery.  Thank goodness only one day, however they rushed me into the surgery three days earlier than expected because I was having so many grand mal seizures they were afraid it was going to put me in a coma.  Apparently it almost did because I could not speak clearly, I could not move my body I could not see clearly.  I was so scared.

I am so happy for you that everything is working out.  Good luck with everything.
