Surgery twice

Sat, 01/17/2009 - 00:22

Has anyone here had surgery more than one time because the first time didnt work for them? I had surgery in 2006. After the first couple months I thought everything had gone well but then I started having seizures again. So, since then I have started back at the first step and am told it is okay to have surgery again. So, has anyone had surgery more than once and it finally worked for them?

I have had surgery twice.  Once in '88 and once in '92 both by the same doctor  and they were both "fine" but they didn't help the seizures.  They did say that they couldn't do any more surgery after the second one though because it would be too dangerous to try and remove any more.  Both were done on the left but the second was a little more extensive because they had to go back behind where the neck is.  I just recently stopped having seizures almost six years ago because we found the right mix of meds.  Surgery never helped.  It could also depend on what kind of seizures you have too though.  Mine are the petit mal seizures where  you just stare off into space for a couple minutes and then you're fine.  If you have a different type of seizure, surgery may help.  Don't be scared or nervous, just be sure to ask alot of questions.  I was just a teen then and didn't really get how serious this stuff was.  I just wanted to do it and not have seizures.  Hope this helps get some insight.  Good luck!          Kim

I have had surgery twice, The first time was because I had severe twitching in my toungue.  It was like a constant seizure in my toungue, that was in 2003.  The surgery cured that but only that because about 5 years later I started having petit mals.  So I decided to do the surgery again, it was very successful, I go back to the doctor in April to start tappering my meds. Where did you have your first surgery? I went to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital Dr. McKhann  They do an excellent job  I wouldn't trust just anyone with a surgery like that.   As long as you know your doctor is reputable then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't go through with the second surgery.  Best of luck to you, any questions feel free to contact me.
