Swelling in surgical site

My daughter had the "epilepsy surgery" in October of 2004. It has had wonderful effects for her. She still has absence & simple partials but NO grand mals, thank the Lord. She was at camp last week & returned yesterday HAPPY & exhausted. She has been resting mostly since returning. What concerns me is that from above her ear all through her temple area is very very swollen. She never complains about pain. It is very hard to diagnose her at times because she has some cognitive delays. She has no fever & no visable increased sz activity. Have any of you seen swelling at a surgery site, well after surgery? Maybe it is common & I'm just unaware. Thanks!

When changes occur after surgery of any kind, hard to sort out unless someone knows the person and can check them out. Talking to surgeon who treated child is best! Hope all okay!

Hi there, I am very interested to hear if your daughters swelling has been resolved and if you discovered the cause. I had my RTL on Jan 3rd and yesterday my face swelled to twice it's normal size and after a day in the ER they have no clue what is causing it. They suspect it may be a stress reaction to the surgery or the fact that I am no longer on the steoids. My doctor said he had never seen post op swelling like mine. Particularly since my right eye was swollen shut and my cheek stuck out at a right angle. Am still pretty puffy but it is getting a bit better. I hope your daughter is doing well. Best wishes. Mary

Hi Mary, I just have to tell you how amazingly brave you are! I was a little upset to read about your face when you wrote about it originally. I hope that you are feeling better soon. Take good care of yourself. Good luck, Tresa
