VNS question

Sat, 07/01/2017 - 10:32
I have had epilepsy all my life (almost 40 years). As of right now, it is relatively under control via medication and a VNS. For a variety reasons I have been depressed lately. I know that exercise stimulates the serotonin levels in the brain and acts as a natural anti-depressant. But aside from living in an urban environment and walking everywhere, I do not get much exercise. Sometimes I just sit around my apartment all day watching television or playing video games. This just adds to my depression. And yet, I have free access to a fully equipped gym at a nearby college. The problem is that my VNS is amped up almost as far as it can go, and if I try working out I can't breathe. Has anyone else with a VNS had this problem and found a solution? Can anyone recommend an exercise regimen?

Start out slow and push your

Start out slow and push your self a little every time. It kinda sounds like you know what you need to do different, use that and feel good about it every time you are not just sitting around. I've sent this next part to everyone, but all of it will not help you. I will pray for you. May I suggest talking to your doctor about a med called Lamotrging. I'm also taking VIMPACT with that, and I have the most control I've ever had. We are trying to wing off the vimpact. If that dose not work, I went a whole year without arua or seizures taking a martial arts class. It was not so much what I learned, the over 100 jumping jack, stretching, working my body at least 5 days a week.  You have heard it before," use it or lose it". Exercise make sense. As soon as I stopped everything came back with in a week. Good luck, life with out seizures can be amazing, always try new things don't let it win.

Hi Samantha, I apologize in advance for the bother. I am a masters student attending Arizona State University and I am working on a project related to the VNS device. I'm currently searching for people with the device in order to get some input on experiences people go through with the devices. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
