Wada Test and Temporal Lobe Resection Surgery

Wed, 09/30/2015 - 13:28

My name is Brittany, I am 22 years old and was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy when I was 14. After taking several medications and none of them working I am scheduled to have both the Wada test and then the temporal lobe resection surgery.  Ive been instructed by my doctor but I still have many fears. Hopefully someone whose been through this can answer my questions.

How invasive is the wada test, how is recovery?

Was the Wada test painful?

For the surgery did they remove much hair?

How was recovery and how long?

My overall biggest concern is if my personality will be altered after the surgery? I have also heard that many patients become severly depressed.

If you could answer anything that would be a great help! I know I need the surgery but at the same time I do not want to come out of it a different person.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it. It feels nice to hear from someone that experienced it.

Hello Brittany,   The WADA is not very invasive.  For me they went through the leg and up a major artery.  It didn't bother me much.  The test itself was not painful at all.  I have left Temporal Lobe resection this coming Feb.  The neurosurgeon told me they remove as little of hair as possible.  He told me that for mine personality won't be affected.  Memory is the biggest problem with these but that my memory is on the other side so I shouldn't run into problems.  As I get closer I am considering starting a blog.  If I do I will drop the link in this conversation. Colleen i know your hd your WADA by now. DI'd it go "well?". For me, didn't like the needles but never do. It wasn't bad at all. As said before in the thread I was very tired for the rest of the afternoon & slept great that night :-) I had laser ablation over Thanksgiving week if you have questions too...
