“The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Southern Illinois was founded in 1977 and offers services for those living in the lower 34 counties of the state of Illinois . Some of the programs include:

  • Epilepsy Public Education and Awareness Programs.
  • Epilepsy Information and Referral.
  • Intensive case management programs for those with seizure disorders.
  • Medical Liaison  and transportation services with area neurologists and epileptologists.
  • Emergency Seizure Medication Program.
  • Pediatric Seizure Clinic.
  • Intermittent and 24 hour residential services for those with epilepsy and other developmental disabilities.
  • Social Support Groups.
  • Camp Roehr –  week long children’s camp for those with seizure disorders held each summer.

EPILEPSY AND SEIZURE SUPPORT SERVICES: This program offers client and family support services for individuals diagnosed with seizures, their families, and the community at large.  Resource facilitators provide information and referral, comprehensive case management, advocacy, counseling, financial planning assistance, support groups, medical liason, and community education.  This program also offers epilepsy public education for anyone interested in the subject of epilepsy.  Anyone who contacts the EFGSI is provided with the most up-to-date information on resources in the community.

EDUCATION: We provide epilepsy education for individuals and families. We offer education programs in schools for students and staff. We offer education programs to businesses, organizations, and professionals.

INFORMATION: We provide up-to-date information for a better understanding of seizures/epilepsy.

TRANSPORTATION: We provide or obtain transportation assistance for clients to get to the neurologist's office.

PEDIATRIC SEIZURE CLINIC: We provide low cost neurological evaluations by appointment to clients up to age 18 who have a possible or diagnosed seizure disorder. We accept referrals from physicians, social service agencies, school personnel, and family members.

Funding provided by Illinois Department of Human Services, Jefferson County Mental Health Board, United Way of Southern Illinois, United Way of South Central Illinois, Madison County Mental Health Board and St. Clair County Mental Health Board.

Dedicated staff are available through two offices in Belleville and Mt. Vernon, Illinois to serve anyone needing further services
