Excuses?

Submitted by web-site-admin on Mon, 10/28/2013 - 07:22
What excuses do you use when you don't/can't do certain things because of epilepsy? I don't want to tell any and everyone yet (or maybe i should?) ... i don't know. I get so many people judging me because I don't work right now or go out to parties or drive, it's sickening especially as I don't have people to lean on. My mother can say she's there but as long as i don't get seizures she's fine if i explain anything to her she just brushes it off.

Are Depth Electrodes Painful???

Submitted by web-site-admin on Sat, 10/26/2013 - 21:19
I was just researching on the Internet about depth electrodes and from what I read, it sounds pretty painful. I'm not down for too much pain in my head. So I might need a whole box of tissue right next to my bed when I get this done. Lol. I can just picture myself crying like a baby. I'm nearing the end of my Epilepsy surgery testing and this is the last test that I have to take other than meeting the neurosurgeon. I just wanted to know what were you guys experiences with the depth electrodes study. Any comments would help. Thank you. :)

aging

Submitted by web-site-admin on Sat, 10/26/2013 - 18:02

I have had seizures since my late teens. They only occured once or twice a year and were always tonic/clonic. I am now 65 and for the last 2 years I have been having partials plus nocturnals quite often. They have been weekly or more. My neuologist is unsure if aging is a key factor in the changes I am having. Are any of you experiencing aging related changes? Do any of you have info on aging/epilepsy. The articles I find here don't give much info. Thanks

When to try a new medication?

Submitted by web-site-admin on Sat, 10/26/2013 - 16:51

How do you know when it is time to switch to a new medication? I currently take two seizure medications, but after 3 years on this combination, my simple partial seizures are getting much more frequent and more intense. They are very mild but happen in clusters just about every day, and of course there is always the possibility that the partial seizure could develop into a generalized seizure (which has happened with me, but very rarely).

Should I wake my partner when I see a nocturnal seizure beginning?

Submitted by web-site-admin on Sat, 10/26/2013 - 11:57
My partner is nocturnal epileptic and though infrequently, he does still suffer night-time seizures occasionally. The last but one time this happened I heard the initial stages of the seizure (rapid loud gulping) and I woke him up and made him drink a glass of water. He 'came to' then fell back to sleep and tho was a little groggy the next day he seemed ok and went to work. About 6 months later (2 nights ago) the same thing happened around 1am - I interrupted the seizure at the gulping stage.

I am getting discrimatided at work due to it. I cannot do over night work and my manager has put me on them I told him too many times it messes up with my sleep pattens. he is not having none of it. I said to him if you sake me I will sue you! because he threated to sake me. I went back to sort the situation out and I had a mini aura and fainted he said get up nothings wrong with you.

Auras and questions for my doctor

Submitted by web-site-admin on Sat, 10/26/2013 - 01:29

Why do I get so tired after I have an aura but no seizure? I have so many questions about everything. Where should I begin. I'm still unsure about what kind of seizures I'm having. Can keppra cause me to have weight gain? What is the best medicine out there? What should I ask the doctor? I have such a hard time focusing lately and remembering times and days and even counting money back! Its getting better but not completely. Also why do different patterns or lights like a disco ball make me have excruciating headaches and feel like I'm having an aura?
