Neurologist won't let me drive unless I take medication after having 1 seizure - is this normal?

Hi all, I am looking for some opinions about the treatment my neurologist has recommended. I am a 30 year old female and I had a seizure (first and only) on September 11th 2013 while I was sleeping. Aside from the fact that I was jet-lagged there was no reason that my neurologist could think of that may have caused it (i.e. no drinking, drugs, head injury etc) and all the usual tests (EEG, MRI and cat scan) came back normal immediately after the seizure.

Prolonged seizure, post-ictal state

I was diagnosed with having a seizure in July. I am 50 years old. I had seen my psychiatrist and he told me later that I had been "acting odd", although he really couldn't define why he felt that way. I fell when I stood up, no injury, and I left the office. From there on, I can't remember. I was told that I went to my car in the parking lot, called my father on my cell and told him that I was in a location (not where I was) and that I needed a ride. He said he tried to question me but I hung up. Then I went back to the doc's office. I was told I was talking strange. Then the police came.

I have been just recently diagnosed with epilepsy. I have no idea how to cope. I don't even know what kind of seizures they are. I have had normal EEGs but the medicine so far has worked. I feel so embarrassed and frankly mortified. My mom follows me around like a crazy lady. I went from being a very independent thriving young woman to being a stay at home in my pajamas feeling like a bum. I also have joint pain and popping. Is that part of epilepsy? How do I go back to being "Normal". I must admit I'm all freaked out about this aura stuff.

THE WADA TEST WAS SCARY!!!!

I was scheduled to take the Wada test yesterday morning at 6:30 am. Oh my gosh. It was the MOST scariest and MOST painful test I have ever been through. When the catheter went up my leg, my entire body tensed up like a stick was placed up my behind. YIKES!!!! It hurt so badly. When the dye was inside my system and the doctors told me that I was going to feel some pain in my head, a tear ran down the side of my face. I can take a whole lot of pain but I cannot tolerate a headache. At that moment, I wanted to say, "Shoot me why don't you? I can't take it anymore.

Hi

I have had two normal EEGS but the doctor said that I have typical looking epileptic tonic-clonic seizures. So he gave me keppra and I haven't had a seizure on the medicine yet. Its been two weeks and I've only had one aura no seizure though. Can anyone explain to me what this means? So does this mean I am not have phychogenic seizures???

How effective is the pill on anti seizure meds?

Hello community!

My SO and I have a monogamous and sexually active relatinoship. We both use the pills and condoms. We're aware that the meds can have a mitigating effect on the pill. How ineffective does it make it? We would like to have relations with alternative forms of contraception than a condom. We both love each other but want to understand the risks better. Thank you for any help!

long term memory loss cause dementia?

Submitted by web-site-admin on Thu, 10/24/2013 - 15:16

My long term memory is going.  I can't remember most of my childhood.  (I'm 54).  I don't remember my any of my 3 sister's weddings, (late 1970's - early '80's).  Is this a sign of early demtia? I realize that dementia is short-term memory loss.  I have had several concussions from my seizures over the years.  I finally started wearing a helmet 5 years ago.  Am I losing it?  I've taken Dilantin since 1976, and tried almost every other AED.  I'm still on Dilantin, but also take Lamictal, Clonazepam and Vimpat.  Are these dangerous to my memory?
