Diamox & Pregnancy

Sun, 04/01/2007 - 13:16
I do not have epilepsy, however, I do have Glauoma and take Diamox. I recently found out I was pregnant (5weeks) and the doctors are telling em I should abort the pregnancy because Diamox has no sufficient studies in humans, and cause bad fetal effects in lab rats. During my search from an answer I found out Diamox is used to treat epilepsy as well. has anyone taken diamox while pregnant? If so what was the dosage & frequncy? & Was the pregnancy complicated at all? Thanks in adavnce.

Diamox is a drug that isn't listed with regular epilepsy meds on this site; http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_medicines.html However, I've noted it elsewhere; "Diamox (acetazolamide), Mysoline (primidone), Zarontin (ethosuximide), and Celontin (methsuximide) have also been successfully used as 'alternative' treatments for JME." http://www.epilepsy.com/articles/ar_1068588110.html And, here are some pages of info I found; http://search.sympatico.msn.ca/results.aspx?q=+Diamox++and+pregnancy&FORM=SSRE3 best of luck, ~sol
