Eclampsia related Seizure

Thu, 05/24/2007 - 15:09
I was not diagnosed with pre-eclampsia when I was 29 weeks pregnant and had a seizure, minor stroke & brain hemorrhage on New Year's Day 2007 at 32 weeks gestation. I had a second seizure in the hospital a few days later. My neurologist stated it was most likely a complex partial seizure and caused by the pregnancy. I thought one of the Dr at the hospital told me that once the pregnancy hormones were out of my system, I most likely wouldn't have any more, but I needed to be on medication for a year just in case. I've been on Dilantin, but struggling with side effects so neuro just switched me to Lamictal today. He said I may need to be on meds for 3 to 5 years! Has anyone else had eclampsia? Does complex partial seizure sound like the right type? Does it sound like I need to be on meds for 3 to 5 years if it was due to pregnancy? I do still have a hemorrhage on the brain per my last MRI, but not sure if that factors into the need for meds. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
