Medications and hairloss

I figured this would be the better place for this because men losing their hair, well, perhaps it's a prejudice thought but I figured women would understand me freaking out about it more. Have you ever had your meds cause hairloss? How did you deal with it? did anything stop it? Slow it down even? Does it grow back? The high levels of trileptal I'm taking are doing a number on my hair. I'm rather attached to the stuff so losing it is rather upsetting. On the plus side I now have an excuse to shop for hats and scarves.

Hi Gina and everyone else with the" oh my! I'm losing my hair!" I used to take Depakote and the doc did warn me of hairloss but wow, I think I lost half of it. My best friend and hairdresser helped me by giving me a cut that helped my hair look fuller and suggested appropriate hair products. One being a mousse that lifts roots another being a special shampoo, gotta work with what we have. She also mentioned a gentle perm but I was reluctent to try it because who knows what the reaction might be. Now I have changed medication and she noticed right away that my hairloss had stopped. I now, after a year, have regained most of my hair. If a med is working good personaly I would'nt change it, so hard to find one that works. Anyway it would be beneficial to talk to your hair dresser he/she may be able to help. Don't be afraid to try a new do, a good proffesional will know what works and what will suit you. Hope this helps and...have a good hair day! Smiles!

Hi Colina, Thank you for sharing your experience, which hair shampoo exactly was suggested?

I also have dealt with it and still dealing with the hairloss. Many of the meds can cause this problem. But I dont know how old you are, but peri-menapause can also cause alot of hair loss too. I just got off of trileptal. I have been on it for about four years. But not sure if the hair loss was from trileptal. For I am dealing with the hormones and that definitely will cause the loss of hair and so much. My doctor told me to take selenium and zinc. take care Lisa http://health.group.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/
