keppra & anger

Fri, 03/03/2006 - 06:41
I just started Keppra. 500mg twice a day. I've only taken it for 3 days. I'm angry. I've said things I would never say to my husband and teenage children. I'm sitting here seething. Could this possibly be the Keppra? I've got to call the doc when the office opens.

UPDATE - Dr. has agreed that it is the Keppra causing the extreme anger. I've stopped taking it but will continue with trileptal and topamax. I have an appt scheduled on tues. Good that you recognized your son's symptoms and were able to switch him. The anger is very real and very intense. It's nothing like the real me and it won't be denied. So glad you changed him and he's happier now.

I was on Keppra for 5 months and had no anger issues...but it didn't control my seizures, either. Topamax made me so angry I actually scared my adult children. Not to mention it completely impacted my cognitive function: I was billing clients who had paid me weeks before, I couldn't balance my checkbook, I was a mess. But everyone reacts differently to medication. You are wise to contact your doctor if you notice a change in your behavior right after starting a new medicine. I hope you find something that agrees with you. Best of luck.

I started taking Keppra about 3 years ago when it was virtually unheard of in the U.K. in fact i was originally put down for one of the trials but I just said give me the Keppra. This shows just how desperate i was at the time!!!! I take it in conjunction with epilim and clobazam. According to my specialist nurse the clobazam just helps to take some of the edge off the rage which some people experience as a side effect of keppra. Still as everyone keeps saying and it's something I know from first hand experience everyones meds seem to effect each other in different ways and there are definetly no hard and fast rules about side effects and how each individual takes to each med. If only it was that simple!!!!
