Tegretol & Pregnancy

Sun, 03/04/2007 - 04:05

I have been taking Tegretol for 7 mths and have so far remained seizure free while on it. I am thinking of becoming pregnant within the next 3 mths and would like some advice or to hear of others who have been in a similiar situation. I had originally wanted to stop taking the Tegretol but after hearing from a few of you on here I have decided against that. I know realise how it would be silly of meto think that I could stop taking it and everything would be ok. I am very concerned about having a baby while on meds, but have heard that a lot of peole have had very healthy babies while on their meds. I am feeling very tired and weak on tegretol and am worried what I'll be like when pregnant, as I know I was very tired with my first pregnancy and I'm wondering if I could cope while on meds. Is their anyone else who has taken Tegretol while pregnant? Or any advice for me on this.

Hi my name is Kylie I am 7 months pregnant, I was on epilim all my life but when I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking my meds. A week ago I had my 1st seizure in 5 years and I was so scared that my baby was harmed. I went to my neurologist and she put me on 200mg of tegregol but I an so scared to take it because I'm scared it could harm my baby... I have been taking all my vitamins and folic acid but I am still scared. This is my first baby so I really need advice.

i am 21 years old. 8 months ago out of the blue i had my first gran mel seziure. Exactly one month later i had my second. My husband and i really want to start a family, but i am so worried about getting pregnant while taking my tegretol. I am only taking 300ml a day. Everyone is telling me to try going off my pills first. I don't think that this is a good choice because who's to say i won't be seizure free for a year than get pregnant than have a seziure than loose the baby as a result. Sometimes i wish my doctor could voice his own opinon. He won't give me any heads up. He just said i'm damed if i do damed if i don't. I was like gee thanks for the advice doc. Can someone out there please just give me some advise.... DO PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY TAKING TEGRETOL HAVE HEALTHY BABIES??
