What to Expect in This Issue

Welcome to spring and our Women’s Issue! We recently celebrated women as part of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day in March. As we head into May, we will be celebrating Mother’s Day, providing another great reason to highlight the important women in the epilepsy community.

We feature four women from different walks of life. First, Christina Conti, who recently competed in the Miss New Jersey USA 2023 pageant and lives with epilepsy. Second is Dr. Xilma Ortiz-Gonzalez, a pediatric neurogenetics specialist. She discusses how genetics can influence treatment decisions for rare epilepsies. Third, journalist Faith Brar chronicles her journey with epilepsy with a story she published in 2020 in Shape magazine.

Last, but not least, our cover story features entrepreneur, book author, and person with epilepsy, Lisa Lindahl. Lindahl invented the “Jogbra,” the first sports bra which helped enable girls and women to participate in sports. You won’t want to miss her journey!

In addition to the four women featured in this edition, we’ve included savory spring dishes in our Recipe Corner, Wellness Corner which features the importance of managing stress when living with epilepsy, and updates on important events in the epilepsy community.
