Joining the Resource Database

The Epilepsy Foundation of America (EFA) Epilepsy and Seizures Helpline provides information and referrals to people affected by seizures and the epilepsies. To provide this service, the EFA maintains an electronic resource database of epilepsy-related national and international resources. The EFA strives to keep these resources current through a scheduled verification process.

The EFA seeks to include in its database Epilepsy Foundation local offices, health and human service programs, and organizations that provide services to individuals affected by seizures and the epilepsies, regardless of the physical location of the service provider. The EFA reserves the right to determine what organizations and programs are included in the EFA database. Although the decision will be made primarily based on the criteria listed below, the final determination of whether or not to include an organization or program shall be at the sole discretion of the EFA.

To be listed in the Epilepsy Foundation of America database, an agency must meet our Database Listing criteria and provide an easily reachable contact person, with a phone number, and address for administrative and verification purposes. This information is only for Epilepsy Foundation staff use and will be considered private or unlisted if you request it. 

• Organizations typically included are non-profit, critical for-profit, religious groups, and coalitions that provide help or specialize in working with people with seizures or the epilepsies. The decision to include an agency is based on the Foundation's Database Listing Criteria. The final determination of whether to include an organization or program shall be the sole discretion of the EFA. 
• Organizations that are not included are typically private practices and agencies that do not specialize in working with people with epilepsy, hers may include agencies that have been charged with or convicted of actions not in the best interest of those persons they serve, agencies that deny services on the basis of color, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ancestry, or nationality, and agencies that refuse without cause to accept referrals are also excluded. Agencies that repeatedly fail to respond to requests for current program information may be removed from the database.

Agencies and programs must also provide an easy-to-reach method of contact for the public (toll-free telephone or FAX number, accessible walk-in location, actively used e-mail, etc.) and have an accessible contact person who will respond to public inquiries about their organization and services in a timely manner.

Agencies who join the database agree to keep the Epilepsy Foundation informed of service changes (e.g. services provided, contact information, intake procedures, and eligibility requirements). An annual request for a review and update of your agency's information will be sent to each agency’s administrative contact. A completed annual review and update is a requirement for continued database membership.

The Epilepsy Foundation holds editorial rights to submitted information for style and standardization. Submitted information is used for the purpose of informing the public of community resources. Information is utilized by the Epilepsy Foundation Information Specialists and may be shared through printed directories, resource listings, and online databases.
