teen discussing public health education and awareness

Greater awareness about the epilepsies is needed to help prevent epilepsy and seizures, reduce stigma, and better connect people with the epilepsies to the care and support they need. The Foundation advocates for this in a variety of ways including through the passage of Seizure Safe Schools legislation at the state level so that students with epilepsy and seizures have safe and supportive learning environments. We also seek funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Epilepsy Program so that more key community members, like school personnel, are trained on seizure recognition and first aid, and people with epilepsy are connected to vital care including self-management programs and mental health care.
