help me please!! could my absence seizures be changing into something else??

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading. This is the first time I've ever reached out to a forum for help. But I don't know where else to go, and I know someone out there must know what I'm going through.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 13. Absence seizures. I had the symptoms since I was 10--the "blank stare" or the--as I called it--"feeling like someone turned the lights out for a second" feeling. It just took my parents 3 years to see what I was talking about.

Anyway, they've been mostly controlled for years. I'm taking 600mg of Lamictal XR and 300mg of Topamax. (I also take 75mg of Zoloft for anxiety but that's besides the point). I've taken other seizure medications before those, but this is the combination we've settled on and I've been on that for the past 5 years or so. I would say that's about how long it's been since I've had any sort of problem. My neurologist prescribed me an RX (Lorazapam) to take during my period because sometimes (about 3 years ago) I would have breakthrough seizures only during the time when my hormones would increase. I dont find that I have that problem during that time of the month anymore, because I'm on the Mirena IUD.

Here's my problem....just a few days ago I was curling my hair and I felt myself have absence seizure, then about 10 minutes later, I felt myself have another one. These were a bit different, because I felt like they were really intense. Maybe not a simple absence, but a complex absence, because I did a little blinking when they happened? Also, within about 1/2 hour, my husband and I thought I might be having a stroke because my speech was slurred, the right side of my face was droopy, and my right arm was tired. I went to the hospital right away, and after an MRI, they determined (after ruling out a stroke-thank God), that it was something called Todd's Paralysis. Has anyone ever heard of this??? I'm very scared.

Also, I feel like I've been getting a very intense headache that builds and builds, then I get an "uncomfortable" feeling, then sort of like a "brain release" feeling in my head...like another absence seizure happens...then my headache goes away. This has been happening over and over again for the past 4 days. Does this make sense to ANYONE?? I just dont want to feel alone.

I just thought I'd put this out there....I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow. But I wanted to see if anyone else knew what I was talking about, and is it possible that after all this time my seizures for no reason could just act up and start changing??

Thanks everyone.

xoxo.
