MAGNESIUM
Sun, 05/08/2016 - 19:48Topic: Complementary Therapies
Hey all,
I've got a few questions and I could really use some opinions and ideas.
What is the best magnesium supplement you've used or heard about to help control your seizures ?
- I understand some folks use it as an addition to other meds -- tell me about that. And some people use it instead of meds -- tell me about it!
I would love to be able to control my seizures without heavy medication or with as little as possible. I am consulting a naturopath as well as a neurologist but most of the work i've done myself. I could really use your advice.
Thanks

It’s not necessarily a “diet”

It’s not necessarily a “diet” or specific foods that’s being looked at here. It’s vitamins and supplements. As a person who has suffered from epilepsy for the past 15 yrs, I can tell you from experience. The medications taken, (trileptal or keppra for example) are known for depleting your body of things such as B12, magnesium, calcium, folic acid, iron, and much more depending upon what a person takes, how much, and for how long. Doctors unfortunately don’t often mention this, but if you bring these back to a normal level it may possibly help you feel better and maintain your seizures. Other vitamins such as omega 3 (fatty acids) are also helpful in maintaining brain function.
LaLena, no disrespect here.

LaLena, no disrespect here. I am very much for eating a healthy diet and my family is very aware of the food that we eat. However, I have never seen any research or heard of a single nutritionist claiming any diet outside of a Ketogenic/ Modified Atkins Diet can make a difference when it comes to seizures.
