Late onset stuttering
Mon, 04/18/2005 - 11:37Hi,
I am a Speech Pathologist in Australia. I have recently assessed a 9yr old boy who has started stuttering in the past 6-9months. Should I be concerned about epilepsy? I would be interested to hear from anybody with late-onset stuttering (not in the preschool years or as a result of medication) who also stutters.
Thanks,
Speechie

Hi Speechie
I am also a Speech Pathologist. I live in New York. This 9-year-old boy who is stuttering, does he have a history of epilepsy? If there is no history the cause of stuttering may be related to something different. I would check out any family history of seizures and stuttering or if anyone in his family has a history of stuttering. Hope this helps.
