"Markers" on EEG

Thu, 08/06/2015 - 12:45

My daughter just had her 2nd EEG - the first Neurologist described her EEG as having "multiple subclinical seizures per hour" - the 2nd one said they weren't seizures but "markers" - what does this mean?

Well The EEG shows electrical activity in the brain. what neurologists look for is SEIZURE ACTIVITY which is different than a seizure itself.  So the first neurologist might have said seizure activity rather them seizure. As for the second neurologist he said they were markers. Markers are things like waves or spikes. So he was stating correctly waves and spikes are the things that show seizure acrivity. I hope this helps and she gets seizure free Joe
