Can I legally get fired in north Carolina for my seizures in north Carolina?

Sat, 09/10/2016 - 10:19
Hey everybody I'm new to this web sit so I hope I posted to the right forum. I've been having seizures for about two years but only once every 4 or 5 months or so.I'm now 19 and about 2 months ago they started becoming a weekly occurrence. I haven't been able to see a neurologist due to insurance issues. I get auroras (? Spell check) so I can get to a safe place a sit down. I lose all consciousness and my whole body seizes. I've been set up with a mayo clinic to help find out what is causes these seizures. They also have changed my medication from dilatin to topamax and gapapentin (? Spell check all the medications). With the new medication I've went from 3-4 seizures a week to 1 seizures every 7-10 days. My employer knew of my seizure history when they hired. I've been a kitchen manager for years and it's never been a issue. I've had a safety evaluation by my physician and he said I'm safe to work in a kitchen because I can tell before I have a seizure. I had one at work yesterday (08-09) while taking the garbage out. I felt one comimg on. There was card board boxes cluttered all around the dumpster so I tried to make it in. Before I made it in I seized up and ended up hitting up my on the concert. I didn't get hurt no injuries. Barely even a scratch. I've had a few at work before. I typically get confused and really spaced out after so I have to go home. I went it to work this morning (8-10) to get told I'm a liability to the company and I no longer have a job. Is this lawful termination? My doctor says I'm Not a safety to my self or others. Keep in mind I live In north Carolina. You can get fired anything here but can you get for medical reasons like this?

Does he know all the different trigger there are? Do you know that auras are warnings and people do have them but auras do not always happen? Does this doctor know that auras are basically seizures themselves? To get more information about what you can do you need to call teh 24/7 help line 1-800-332-1000. The government has laws and yes one about workers with disabilities.

If it is a right to work

If it is a right to work state, such as Florida where I live, yes they can fire you. For any reason they choose. However, most companies have a program you can enter into that allows for absences due to medical issues without ramifications. These are usually only temporary and after a certain amount of time you must go on medical leave under the disability act. They may not terminate you when you are on medical leave (this must be approved by corporate and be related to severe medical illnesses, such as epilepsy).
