Need advice after my brothers first Seizure.

Mon, 09/24/2018 - 22:35
Hi, I just want to start out by saying we aren't 100% sure my brother has Epilepsy yet as we're still waiting for an EEG scan. 1 week ago my 28 year brother had his first ever seizure, in fact his first ever real medical problem. He started to feel strange in the afternoon with his right hand and arm starting to twitch and shake uncontrollably. He went on about his normal day as he believed it to be down to low blood sugar levels. When he got to a friends house it hadn't got any better, so asked for a sugary drink to help with what he believed to be low blood sugars, the only drink his friend had was Red Bull. He had 2 (I know bad idea) and it didn't stop the shaking of the right arm. Later on in the evening he started to feel sick and threw up twice, then after that is when he started to have a full on seizure. There was about a 4-5 hour time period between when his arm started shaking to him having his seizure. The last thing he remembers before blacking out is the shaking travelling down from his right arm to also his right leg before collapsing and blacking out. His friend that was there said he was fitting uncontrollably during his seizure. He regained consciousness a while later in the ambulance. Later in the hospital he started to feel slightly better, but was tired and his right leg was still twitching and shaking. He had blood tests and a CT scan that same night and both came back perfectly fine so he was discharged. 1 week has gone by and he feels fine within himself, but the only problem his he struggles to walk properly due to his right leg feeling weak. When he stands his right leg keeps shaking and he describes it as 'feeling like jelly'. His right side was the side effected and he remembers his right leg giving way first. My question is, is this normal after a reasonably big seizure? If so how will it take for him to recover as he can't work in this condition which is frustrating because other then that hes perfectly fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully when we finally get the EEG appointment it'll tell us more. Thanks, Tom.

Hi,Thanks for the reply and letting me know about postictal state. Do you reckon him having 2 red bulls after his right arm started shaking acted sort of like a catalyst (because of the caffeine) in making his seizure a lot worse?
