On disabilty. Do I have medicaid?

Thu, 04/16/2009 - 19:29
I have been on disability for a year now. For about a week I had a medicaid card then it was discontinued bc with my disabilty chieck I somehow "made too much" $20 too much to be exact. I would've preferred the medicaid over a monthly check any day! But I digress. I was able to get my Lamictal free through a prescription assistance program & my trileptol I sometimes just paid for or went to social services to get county insurance. Which by the way is too much of a hassle. Waking up at 3am, waiting for 4hrs only to have them go through your bank statements, then having them question EVERYTHING is just too stressful. Plus my epilepsy has been acting up, my tongue is chewed up & I just can NOT deal with that. I'd need someone to drive me, stay with me, and make sure I'm ok if I were to go there & everyone works & goes to school. I got behind in a lot of bills & haven't been able to take my medication like I need it so I haven't been able to affortd anything! I need a new prescription to re-enroll in the prescription assistance & I can't afford it. I recently got a medicaid package and I just honestly do NOT understand insurance talk. I called them up & tried to understand it all but I just get it. If anyone knows about the system & how it works I would greatly appreciate some insight.

hi,  sounds like your feet should be hot with the hell you are walking throught.  I have burn scars on mine.  Medicare for me became available after being on disability for two years.  that has been about 9years ago.  The way it works is different for some people.  I have private insurance because of my wife's work. At times when her work did not provide insurance we were forced to pay for cobra insurance.  at that time it was 700.00 a month.  I also have medicare.  The general idea is private pays first, then medicare.  Medicare pays 80% for me. and i have plan D as well for my medications.  The best place that i have found information is the web site.  some states maintain a site for specific information,  there is the goverment fed. site.  There are also sites that will clarify the regulations.  Some of the disability services have that type of service.  At best this situation is bad and i have not been able to find out why, if someone is disabled they are not imediately placed on medicare.  i have been trying to find out and fight to get this problem fixed, all i get is the same answere.  It is the federal regulation.  I am still fighting so maybe it will change.  i know this at best is alittle information, and i hope a little helps.   rikk
