Having a HUGE INSURANCE ISSUE!!! I need suggestions... PLEASE

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 21:58
Hi folks, I will be losing my insurance in May, and I am taking Lamictal XR ( 800 mil per day) and I am having a HARD TIME trying to find a Health insurance provider that will cover me as soon as I enroll for it. Mostly everyone wants me to wait 12 months for pre existing conditions, and they want to charge you a arm and a leg for it. The "Hippa Insurance" is going to cost me over $1,500.00 a month, I told the guy that I might as well, pay out of pocket for my own meds instead of pay for the insurance. That is more than that Rent!!! I  am at a loss at this point, I don't know what to do... I just wanted to know if anyone out there could give me any suggestions, on insurance providers that might could help, or anything that might be helpful, it TRUELY WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Thanks for your time, Take Care. ~Kellie~ Nashville, TN

Dear Kellie,

I don't have an answer to your question but I understand your frustration with the insurance companies. My son is 15 and has tried every drug there is and still has seizures regularly.

I do not live in Nashville TN but after reading your chat you might want to call your congressman  or make an appointment and go to his/her office and tell your story.  If I were you I would urge whoever your congressmen and senators are there in TN to pass the President's health care bill so that you, my son and millions of others who have epilepsy will not be punished for having a preexisting condition and we won't go broke treating that condition.

There is a generic form of Lamictal but I'm not familiar with Lamictal XR. You might want to ask your doctor the risks of switching to a generic but that would save money.

Good Luck,

Laura

The only suggestion that I can make for you is to check with your local Assistance Office. My husand and I do not have any insurance, but they did give the medical assistance to both of my sons. My oldest son which is a little over 2 years old has had uncontrolled seizures with medication... And I also do not live in TN, so I'm not sure how things work there... sorry couldn't be more helpful...

Good Luck,

Affordable Meds at Costco!
This comes from a person posting on the EFA site: “I have learned while trying to pay for medications when unemployed, like I am, that the best place to get your meds at a very affordable place is Costo…..I just got three months of Lamotragine for $30!”
