Medicare not paying for VNS

Medicare not paying due to medical coding. Medicare supose to be changing this. Is this so?

okay.. just answered you but lost my post so here goes... If VNS was prescibed for epilepsy, supposed to be covered by Medicare. If it isn't, that's new! If VNS put in for depression, may not be covered as specific criteria for this exist. Some state medicaids and private insurers also may not be covering VNS for depression yet.

Ask the doctor's office to contact Cyberonics, the maker of VNS - they have reimbursement specialists who can help figure out what is going on and what to do.

I had no problem getting Medicare to cover VNS, although my doc. was very determined to put a stop to the seizures so he did make it known that there was no question about whether it was really needed. Also the insurance company can look at it as cost efficiant in the long run because of the amount of money saved on your monthly medication you will no longer need to take. Mary

I recently brought VNS up to my Neuro after having several Gran Mals. He said he was thnking about it if we can't find a drug that gives me better control. He said he didn't want to say anything, but since I'm the one that brought it up, the issue was on the table for discussion.
