Changing meds - Lamictal to Trileptal

Thu, 12/22/2005 - 09:21
I have been in a process of medication change for three month aprox, decreasing 300 mg of Trileptal every two weeks (from 2400mg to 0) and increasing Lamictal (400 up to 800mg). Last week, being on 1200 mg trileptal + 800 mg Lamictal for 4 days already, I had a seizure. Is it possible that I will not be able to stop using trileptal? Thanks

You will be able stop with trileptal. I am also in the middle of going from trileptal to lyrica. You really have to take it very slow. I have stopped for now, till the holiday is over. Then I will decrease and increase starting next week again. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Going slow and having patience is key! Part of changing meds is finding a new baseline for yourself. Keep track of how you feel and share it with the doctor/nurse regularly. I've put links to medication sections you might find helpful. http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_medicines.html http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/medicine_startstop.html Best wishes, Epilepsy.com Resource Specialist
