Dry mouth with Lamictal.

Wed, 12/21/2005 - 10:19
Hi everyone! I'm new here - took me a while to join;mI've been diagnosed for the last 20 years or so (I.m 35 yo M). For the last few years I've been on the Tegretol and Topamax mix; six months ago I had to increase the T-max from 50mg to 200mg - it worked for a while - but no more! And on top of things like for lots of people it made me really "stupid" and very slow..Was searching for words.etc...Anyways - long story short - it's my second day on Lamictal and I have terribly dry mouth! Any Suggestions or tips? (i'm taking only 25mg to start with) Thanks S

The main concernts related to lamictal are deadly rashes. I am currently on Lamicatal 200 mg a day. For now I would just suggest carrying a water bottle with you so when you get the dry mouth sensation simply drink a little bit of water. I have been on Lamictal for over 5 years now. No complications with the it yet. Your system just needs to adjust to the switch over. I would make another suggestion of trying to get more sleep in during this cross over period. I can agree with you about some of these drugs making one feel slow, sleepy all the time, weak etc. Lamictal has been a great drug however I do not recommend getting the generic from Canada. I was able to tell a huge difference when I switched back from the generic to Lamictal. A little something missing or extra in there. Good luck.

Thank you! I'll try to do that; It's also makes me extremly thirsty - I can drink 1/2 gallon of water at once! Do you remember of being thirsty or having a dry mouth in the beginning or it's rather rare? Thanks S

I had a bit of a problem with dry mouth when I started Lamictal 18 mos. ago. Still have it a little at 400 mg/day, but some cold water or sparkling clear beverage clears me up. Happy trails, cc
