Keppra stomach issues

Sun, 03/18/2018 - 06:53
Hi. I have been on 750 mg of keppra (generic) for about a year and it's been rough going. I had been on depakote for many years but it was causing memory issues thus causing the switch. Early on, the keppra caused exhaustion and moodiness. Once that lessened a bit, I developed severe stomach problems with symptoms similar to ibs and acid reflux. The pain/discomfort is ongoing, I have a lot of trouble sleeping, and I feel as if doing anything is depleting and exhausting at this point. I feel like I'm barely getting by. Honestly, I'm not really sure if the stomach problems are related to taking keppra but am wondering if anyone else is having similar issues. The good news is that the seizures are controlled...the bad news is everything else. (My neurologist doesn't think there's a connection between the medication and the stomach problems but it seems like more than a coincidence to me but, of course, it's hard to know). I would love to know if others have experienced similar issues and what they've done about it. Thank you for any input you can provide!

My stomach issues coincided

My stomach issues coincided with starting and increasing Keppra.  I'm in the process of investigation with a gastroenterologist but I don't know how things are going to turn out.

My son also take keppra and his doctor put him on a medication that make his stomach contents empty faster but that only worked for a short period. Keppra has many side effects such as memory loss and it makes your brain run at a slower rate, speech problems and stomach issues and which my child suffers from all of the above. If you search the side effects you will see its unhealthy but the doctors dont have to live the life of misery and wont think much of anyone else issues. The problems will continue with that medication.
