Lethargic from AEDs

Tue, 12/27/2005 - 22:23
My 16-year-old daughter has been lethargic and feeling very poorly for 7 weeks. Sleeps 15 hours per day and unable to attend high school. Doctor thinks her body has been unable to process her AEDs (meds) and they have built up in her body. Are slowly reducing daily meds but risk of increased seizures causing anxiety for my daughter. Anyone with similar issues?

Hi, My daughter is 22 now, but we went through the very same thing as you describe when she was about 16. She never seemed to be fully awake and alert, and she said she felt like a zombie. We had to take her completely off of all her AED's, and slowly wean her onto new meds. She actually missed about 6 weeks of school due to both the side effects of the meds, and the seizures. Once we got her on a new med, her seizures did calm down a lot. I'm glad to hear they are slowly reducing the meds. I wish you the best of luck, and keep us posted on how she's doing, okay?
