My son also just started on carbamazepine. Once in the morning and once at night. His Neuro. has ordered his first blood work to be done at the end of this month ( he started the pills March first.) The Dr. is doing a CBC and checking his lytes and liver. He is also checking the amount of the blood drug level. I think if things come back normal and the meds. seem to be keeping the seizures away, then they will do another check in about 6 months or so. Does this sound about right to everyone else? ~~skwest10 yr. old son W/ benign rolandic epilepsy

I was on carbatrol for almost 4 years. I had to get blood work done a lot at the beginning and then once every few months after the first 6... and other circumstances like if i got really sick or the one time i got a concussion.

I have been on Tegretol for about six years now. I go in for testing every six months.
